Not yet as widespread as five string violins and violas, five string cellos are nevertheless an excellent choice of instrument, and arguably even better-suited to being fitted with five strings than violins and violas.
Bach's 6th Cello Suite was written for a five string instrument - but this is by no means the limit of what can be played on a 5 string cello. An extremely versatile instrument, it has potential to play anything from more traditional basslines to folk fiddle tunes on the high E string.
There are quite a few electric five string cellos on the market. Acoustic 5 string cellos are usually harder to find. Some people have converted 4 string acoustic cellos to 5 string cellos, but we will be mostly stocking purpose-built five string cellos.
